Kurdistan’s local historiography from the Safavid period to the late Constitutional era represents one of the most significant manifestations of the Iranian–Islamic historiography in peripheral regions of central political power. Not only does the historiographical tradition narrate the political, social, and cultural transformations of Kurdistan, but it also reflects the relationship between local authorities and the central state, as well as the gradual formation of local historical consciousness. The main question addressed in this study concerns which types, narrative logics, and semantic focal points underpin Kurdistan’s local historiography during this period, and how these types emerged in connection with transformations in structures of power and territorial organization. Adopting a typological approach and drawing on content analysis of primary local historical texts—such as the Sharafnāma of Bidlisi, Zobdat al-Tavārikh of Sanandaji, Lab al-Tavārikh, Tārikh al-Akrād, Sīr al-Akrād, Hadīqa-ye Nāseri, Mir’āt al-Zafar, Tohfat al-Nāseri, Tārikh-e Salātin-e Howrāmān, Tārikh-e Kurdistān, and Tārikh-e Mardūkh—this study seeks to identify and explain the main forms of local historiography in Kurdistan. The findings indicate that local historiography in this period can be classified into four major types: (1) histories of Kurdish tribes and emirates, (2) histories of ruling dynasties in Kurdistan, (3) urban social history, particularly the city of Sanandaj, and (4) local historiography influenced by the Constitutional Revolution. These historiographical transformations reflect structural shifts in the discourse of power in Kurdistan, demonstrating that local historiography has played a significant role in shaping Kurdish historical self-awareness in the modern era
