The history of Iran and Islam has consistently grappled with deceptive claimants and the rise of innovative religious ideologies. A substantial number of false claimants to prophethood, imamate, and messiahship surfaced during the Midieval era of Iranian history, notably in the 5th to 9th centuries AH, necessitating experts to decipher this phenomenon. Employing a descriptive-analytical methodology, this research aims to address the fundamental question: What are the reasons and backgrounds for the emergence of religious claimants in the 5th to 9th centuries AH in the history of Iran? The study reveals that diverse factors played a pivotal role in the formation, fortification, and perpetuation of such occurrences. Historical backdrop, contemporary political-religious perspectives, religious beliefs, the influence of various sectarian ideologies, public discontent arising from the disconnect between the government and the people, and the imposition of oppressive policies by governments during this period of Iranian history all contributed to the lack or erosion of legitimacy of governments which were inherently alien in this era. Ultimately, the pursuit of material and spiritual interests by individuals or supporting factions played a role in the emergence of false religious claimants. This research furnishes a comprehensive framework and approach for comprehending these transformations in the history of Iran and Islam.
