Abstract

The Foroughi family held a distinguished and enduring position in the fields of culture, knowledge, and politics in 19th and 20th century Iran. Foroughi played a significant role in laying the groundwork for the Constitutional Revolution through the publication of a decade of the newspaper “Tarbiyat”. In this newspaper, the names and works of prominent French thinkers, intellectuals, and writers were introduced to Iranians for the first time. Foroughi's sons, Mohammad-Ali and Abolhassan, also had a significant impact on the promotion of knowledge and culture. Mohammad Ali created lasting works. His “history of philosophy in Europe” and some of his other works were influenced by the ideas of French philosophers. Abolhassan played a significant role in shaping modern education in Iran through the establishment of Darolmoallemin-e Markazi (Central Teacher Training College) in 1918. In this educational institution, French teachers taught alongside Iranian teachers. Mohammad-Ali Foroughi's children, particularly Mohsen Foroughi, played a significant role in disseminating and promoting French culture in Iran. The present study revolves around the question of what role and contribution the Foroughi family had in the cultural landscape of contemporary Iran. Using a descriptive and analytical approach, this article focuses solely on the contribution and role of the Foroughi family in disseminating French culture in contemporary Iran
