Abstract
The research examines the transformation of the political and military strata in Iran during the Seljuk period, focusing on the central government's increasing power. It poses the question of why the Seljuk political system sought to alter the status of influential social classes and the consequences of this strategy. The Seljuk government, initially established through the support of Turkmen tribes and local elites, aimed to centralize authority. By creating a bureaucratic system and a standing army, it sought to exert control over local and tribal powers.This centralization resulted in the decline of local nobility and the rise of new classes of bureaucrats and Amir-Ghulamans within the government. The study employs documentary research and sociological analysis to understand the changes in the position of political and military forces in the Seljuk state. Key findings indicate that following the deaths of Nizam al-Mulk and Sultan Malik Shah, corruption within the bureaucratic system allowed a new political and military aristocracy, known as royal emirs of slaves, to seize financial and political power. They utilized institutions like Iqta and Atabaki, ultimately contributing to the collapse of the Seljuk bureaucratic system. This research highlights the intricate dynamics between central authority and local powers during the Seljuk era.
