The issue of nationality from the Qajar period onwards has received attention due to the expansion of communications between countries. In this regard, one of the factors that facilitated the acquisition of nationality was the intermarriage of citizens of different countries. This research aims to shed light on Iran-Ottoman relations during the Qajar period. Relying on library sources and Iranian archival documents, this research seeks to clarify the subject of nationality and its role in Iran-Ottoman relations. It aims to answer the question of how marital relationships contributed to the nationality of Iranians in the Ottoman Empire, what differences arose from these connections between Iran and the Ottoman Empire, and how the governments of Iran and the Ottoman Empire reacted to these issues.
The research findings indicate that, during this period, due to the proximity of Iran and the Ottoman Empire, there were numerous interactions between the two governments. Many marital connections were formed, and these marriages facilitated the acquisition of Iranian nationality in the Ottoman Empire. Nationality through marriage created differences between Iran and the Ottoman Empire, and although Iran consistently tried to address these issues, the Ottoman Empire, having significant interests, was reluctant to enforce laws related to marriage through nationality acquisition.
